A panoramic view of Marigot and it's harbor from the hilltop next to Fort Louis.

This afternoon the girls had a play date / cooking date with another spouse, Katie Wightman, so Tanner and I decided to take off and have some boy type fun. First stop: Fort Louis just outside the french town of Marigot.

The ancient and dilapidated fort was built by the French Navy in 1776 and is perched on a hill top right next to the bay and the city. It commands a sweeping view of the area all around it, and the remains of the fort, the rocks and the grass around it, and the ocean below are an absolute treat to see and to photograph.

Tanner and I hiked around the fort for a while enjoying the stiff, cool breeze. There is a geocache on this hilltop somewhere, but without a GPS we were not able to find it. There are 16 geocaches on the island, and it would be fun to find them all.

Dang. No cannon balls.

Best view in the fort. We both wondered what had originally been on that block.

It's fun to imagine these cannons in their prime lobbing balls onto invading ships.

Remains of the inner fortress.

A jail cell?

The armory.

Taking a breather.

Some of the 200+ year old walls are still in good shape.

And of course, after our hike we stopped by Sarafina’s for some crêpe!

If you have a smart phone and the geocaching app, you should be able to find the caches on the island.

      Hey Chad,

That worked well for me back in the States, but my iPhone (AT&T) spins forever looking for service down here. I could jail break it and put in a sims card from a local carrier, but I just haven’t gotten to it yet.
